Illinois Ticket Wins $1 Billion Powerball Jackpot

The Aug. 12 drawing ended a 44-draw run and produced Powerball's eighth-largest prize, worth $450.5 million if the winner takes the lump sum instead of a 29-year annuity.

Illinois Ticket Wins $1 Billion Powerball Jackpot

A single ticket sold in Illinois matched all six numbers in the Aug. 12 Powerball drawing to win an estimated $1.04 billion jackpot.

The prize is the eighth-largest in Powerball's history and the biggest the game has produced in 2026. The winner can take an annuity paid over 29 years or a lump sum of $450.5 million, both before taxes.

The win ended a run of 44 consecutive drawings without a jackpot, stretching back to May 2.

A 44-Draw Rollover Ends in Quincy

The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, with a red Powerball of 9, Powerball said. Local and national outlets reported the ticket was sold at a Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh gas station in Quincy, Illinois.

Powerball's announcement named only the state.

Four tickets in Arizona, California, Florida and North Carolina matched five white balls for $1 million each, a Massachusetts ticket with the Power Play option took $2 million, and more than 3 million tickets won some cash prize.

The odds of matching all six numbers on a $2 play are 1 in 292.2 million.

As participation continues to grow across markets, players are helping fuel larger jackpots and create even greater excitement for the game.

Stephen Durrell, chair of the Powerball Product Group, said that in the game's announcement of the win.

Illinois Adds a Second Billion-Dollar Prize

Illinois has produced a 10-figure lottery win before. A ticket sold in Des Plaines took a $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot on July 29, 2022, and two anonymous claimants split a lump sum of about $780.5 million weeks later, according to multiple published reports.

This winner may never be identified. Illinois allows lottery winners of prizes above $250,000 to keep their names private.

The Aug. 12 result came about two weeks after a single Florida ticket won $800 million in Mega Millions. FairGambling also covered the National Lottery's UK Powerball launch when tickets went on sale.

The jackpot now resets. Powerball lists the next drawing, on Aug. 15, at an estimated $20 million with a cash value of $8.7 million.
