500 Casino says it has refunded $1.74 million to more than 35,800 players after admitting its Towers game underpaid wins since September 2023.
Independent auditor ProvablyFair found the game took its advertised 5% house edge again on every row a player climbed. The house edge is the share of each bet the casino expects to keep, and at the top row it reached 40.13%.
The gap landed directly on winning players. On a $100 Medium bet cashed out at row 4, the game paid $1,303.21 instead of the $1,520 a single 5% cut would pay, according to the auditor.
Auditor Traces the Gap to the Payout Table
ProvablyFair published its investigation on Oct. 29. It drew on captured game code, a 33-game test in October 2026 and 27 winning records dated November 2024.
Every game result still checked out as provably fair. The auditor said the flaw sat in the payout table, which decides what a win pays and sits outside the fairness check.
Its model put extra player losses at $3.5 million to $21.6 million over three years, an estimate built on assumptions.
500 Casino Admits the Error and Pays Players
"That edge should be taken once per game. Our code took it again on every row (Towers) and every correct guess (HiLo)."
500 Casino wrote in a statement on X on Oct. 30 that it fixed Towers and a second game, HiLo, that day and credited each affected player the shortfall plus 10%.
The casino put the amount owed at $1.58 million plus $158k in extras. It said half of affected players get less than $1.60, and row-10 wins made up under 1% of affected Towers wins.
ProvablyFair.org re-tested the game on Oct. 31 and found it now pays 5%. The refund totals come from 500 Casino's own records, the auditor noted.
Affected players should see refunds in the Compensation column of their Towers game history.
It remains unclear what will happen to refunds credited to inactive accounts or how those players have been notified.
