Betsson reported record quarterly revenue of €326.5 million ($366.8 million) on Oct. 22, after its count of active customers rose 40% to a new high in the third quarter of 2026.

Profit moved the other way. EBITDA, a common measure of operating profit, fell 23% to €63.4 million ($71.2 million), according to the company's interim report. Net income dropped to €28.2 million from €50.1 million a year earlier.

Betsson signed up far more players, with about 1.9 million active customers against 1.3 million a year before, yet it kept a smaller slice of every euro they lost.

Casino Play Drives the Record

Casino revenue rose 14% to about €253.5 million, roughly three-quarters of the group total, according to multiple industry reports. Sportsbook revenue grew just 1%.

The sportsbook margin slipped to 8.1% from 8.8%. That margin is the share of bettors' stakes the bookmaker keeps after paying out winnings.

Instead, growth was driven by the casino product.

President and Chief Executive Pontus Lindwall said the record came even though the betting margin was "considerably lower" than in the second quarter. He credited World Cup marketing in Peru and Argentina for lifting Latin American revenue by more than 50%.

Higher Duties Squeeze Profit

Betting duties and gaming taxes rose to €69.4 million from €41.4 million, as reported by SBC News. The outlet tied the jump to more revenue coming from locally regulated markets, which tax operators at home.

The EBITDA margin, the share of revenue left as operating profit, shrank to 19.4% from 27.9%. Revenue in the Nordics, home to Betsson's Swedish base, fell 10% to €32.7 million, according to multiple industry reports.

FairGambling covered Betsson's second-quarter results, when revenue also set a record while profit fell.

Lindwall pointed to "a positive start to October" and said the group is "well positioned to return to earnings growth." Whether fourth-quarter profit actually turns higher, as more of the business shifts into taxed markets, remains the open question for the next report.
