Kalshi Breaks Records with $4.9 Billion U.S. Football Weekend
Combo contracts made up 61% of the almost $4.9 billion traded on Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, a figure that counts both sides of every trade and values penny longshots at a full dollar.

Kalshi traded almost $4.9 billion in contracts over the NFL's opening weekend of Sept. 12 and Sept. 13, the two biggest days in the exchange's history.
Multi-leg combo contracts, the prediction market version of a sportsbook parlay, made up 61% of that total, according to multiple industry reports. Kalshi collected about $32 million in fees across the two days.
Trading volume is the sector's headline measuring stick, and it is not the same as sportsbook handle, which simply measures the total cash bettors actually wager. Analysts who track the exchange's data say parlay-heavy days inflate it.
Parlays Supply Most of the Record
Kalshi cleared roughly $2.4 billion on each day, topping the record it set on Sept. 5 during college football's opening weekend. Parlay volume alone came to about $1.5 billion on each of the two days.
More than $590 million traded on individual Week 1 NFL contracts, the second-largest event total in Kalshi's history behind the 2026 World Cup winner market, Time reported. Rival Polymarket traded $404 million on Sept. 13.
Volume Counts Both Sides of Every Trade
Notional volume tallies the maker and the taker side of each trade, and every contract is priced against a $1 payout. A longshot parlay leg that changes hands for a fraction of a cent still registers as a full dollar.
Taker-side volume, which counts only the side that initiates a trade, ran to $555.7 million on Sept. 12 and $596.7 million on Sept. 13. Both figures sit below the $640.3 million record set on July 11.
The metric has drawn scrutiny before, including a DraftKings cofounder's claim that Kalshi's totals include its own market maker.
The same measure frames what comes next. DeFi Rate analyst Matthew Bain projects Kalshi will trade $56.5 billion in NFL contracts across the 2026-27 season, against $7.2 billion last season, with a high-growth path reaching $128.1 billion.
