Duel Tells Sweden It Won't Drop Swedish After License Ban

Duel's operator told Sweden's gambling regulator it should not have to remove Swedish from its website, even as the regulator banned it from targeting Swedish players on Oct. 28.

Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, banned Immortal Snail LLC from offering gambling in Sweden without a license. Immortal Snail runs the crypto casino Duel.

The order tests how far a national regulator can reach an offshore casino. Duel holds a license from Anjouan, not Sweden.

A ban only bites if the operator walls the country off.

Duel Says Sweden Should Do the Blocking

Immortal Snail answered the regulator in writing, according to the decision as quoted by SBC News. The company said "Swedish is an international language" and that Sweden "should be IP-blocked."

An IP block turns away visitors whose internet address traces to a country. A player using a VPN can get around one.

The company also said it cannot control whether players pay in Swedish kronor (SEK). It added that it "should not cease offering Swedish as a language on the website."

Regulator Finds Swedish Still on the Site

Spelinspektionen's own check found that "the IP blocking against Sweden has not been implemented," according to the decision as quoted by SBC News.

"The Swedish currency SEK and Swedish as a language still appear when logging in from a Swedish IP address," the regulator wrote. It also noted continued Swedish-language marketing of duel.com.

Duel launched in 2025 under founder Ossi "Monarch" Ketola, who also built the skin-gambling site CSGOEmpire. FairGambling covered Ketola's apology video aimed at Stake and Trainwreck in July.

The regulator's public notice names no fine and no deadline. What remains unresolved is whether Spelinspektionen takes further steps if Swedish and kronor stay on duel.com.
