Kalshi and PolyMarket Look Beyond Google's 1 August Extension Ban
On 1 August Google will remove Chrome extensions that enable real-money prediction market trades, closing a browser gateway to platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket, who have so far not responded publicly.

Kalshi and Polymarket are largely shrugging off Google's ban on prediction market browser extensions, routing power users to their own tools ahead of the August 1, 2026 enforcement deadline.
Google announced on July 1 that the Chrome Web Store now classifies prediction markets as prohibited products, wiping out the third-party extensions traders use to streamline orders and aggregate odds.
Neither operator has addressed the ban publicly, and neither needs to panic (yet): the Chrome Web Store policy update bars any extension that "facilitates or enables real money transactions on predictive outcomes" but leaves prediction market websites and official mobile apps untouched.
- Kalshi has answered the power-user gap directly by launching its own advanced trading terminal, cutting its dependency on the Chrome ecosystem entirely.
- Polymarket is pouring resources into its independent web framework as it prepares a compliant U.S. re-entry with limited trading services.
Why Does the Extension Ban Barely Register?
Both operators are fighting bigger fires. A New York federal judge denied Kalshi's injunction bid against the state this month, and the CFTC is defending federal jurisdiction against nine states.
Polymarket took a harder hit in Europe on Wednesday, when the Czech Finance Ministry blacklisted the platform and ordered local ISPs to block the site within 15 days under its Gambling Act.
What This Means for Traders
Traders lose only the extension route on August 1; the next signal to watch is whether Google extends restrictions to Play Store apps or ads. However, Kalshi and Polymarket are putting alternative products in play.
